Mackie Samoskevich scored twice and Berkly Catton had a goal and an assist as the Seattle Kraken won their home opener Sunday night, defeating the Calgary Flames 6-1.
Bobby McMann, Shane Wright and Jordan Eberle also scored, and Chandler Stephenson and Brandon Montour had two assists apiece for the Kraken (2-1-0), who rebounded from a 3-1 loss Saturday in Edmonton. Goaltender Joey Daccord made 32 saves.
Morgan Frost scored and Dustin Wolf stopped 21 of 27 shots for the Flames (0-3-0), who have been outscored 16-3 in their three losses.
Frost spoiled Daccord’s shutout bid with a power-play goal at 14:25 of the third period. Frost tipped a pass from Matvei Gridin into the net from the top of the crease.
Eberle capped the scoring on a snapshot from the top of the right faceoff circle at 15:04.
Sunday’s result was the same as the season opener, when the Kraken won 6-1 Thursday in Calgary.
The Kraken scored three times in the opening 7:40.
Catton scored first, corralling a bouncing puck in the slot with his skate and putting a wrist shot from the inside edge of the left faceoff circle into the upper left corner of the net at 2:22.
Samoskevich made it 2-0 at 4:40 after Montour lifted a high backhanded pass from his own zone to the Calgary blue line. Flames defenseman Kevin Bahl lost his balance while backpedaling and Samoskevich was able to skate past and slip a backhander between Wolf’s pads.
McMann took a lead pass from Stephenson and put a wrist shot from the slot over Wolf’s blocker at 7:40 to make it 3-0.
The score remained that way until 11:58 of the second when Catton carried the puck down the right wing and sent a pass to Wright in the slot. With his back to the net, Wright shoveled a backhander between Wolf’s pads.
Samoskevich scored his second at 19:34 of the second, taking a pass from his former University of Michigan teammate Matty Beniers on a three-on-two rush and beating Wolf with a wrist shot from just inside the right faceoff dot to extend Seattle’s lead to 5-0.
