The Carolina Hurricanes continue their five-game road trip, looking to pick up a second win over the Vancouver Canucks in as many weeks when the two teams hit the ice Tuesday night.
Carolina is looking to return to the win column after Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the Calgary Flames, which snapped the Canes’ seven-game winning streak.
“This is the no-one-feels-sorry-for-you league. We just regroup. We still created a ton of offense,” said Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour. “(The Calgary) game could have looked different, but I still would have felt the same, because we’re giving up way too much.”
Jalen Chatfield and Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored while goaltender Brandon Bussi made 31 saves for the Canes, who are 5-1-0 on the road this season.
Sebastian Aho added an assist in the loss and has points (six goals, eight assists) in all but one game to start the season.
“We just probably gave up way too much,” said forward Jordan Martinook. “It felt like, especially in the third, (Calgary) started putting it on us a lot and they were just playing simple, like how we usually play.”
The Hurricanes will be without forward Taylor Hall, who was placed on injured reserve Monday with an upper-body injury. The 34-year-old has three goals and two assists in eight games this season. Hall is considered week-to-week.
Forward Mark Jankowski (lower body) was also sent home from the road trip for further observation.
With Hall and Jankowski on the shelf, the Canes have recalled forwards Bradly Nadeau and Felix Unger Sorum from the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves.
Tuesday is the second and final meeting between Carolina and Vancouver this season. The Canes thumped the Canucks 7-2 in Raleigh on Oct. 8.
Logan Stankoven paced the Hurricanes offense with a hat trick, Andrei Svechnikov added a pair, while K’Andre Miller and Jankowski also scored. Sean Walker added four assists in the win.
Vancouver entertains Carolina following a six-game road trip, looking to snap a seven-game losing streak.
Forward Elias Pettersson and Linus Karlsson scored in Saturday’s 4-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Goaltender Kevin Lankinen made 31 saves for the Canucks, who picked up just one of a possible 12 points on the road trip and haven’t won since a 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Oct. 3.
“The execution of details within our game, things that we’ve continuously talked about that are just non-negotiable,” said Canucks coach Manny Malhotra. “We need to have them to be able to be successful. Getting in shot lanes, being tougher around our net, face-off details.
“We continue to learn the lesson the hard way that when you don’t do those things, pucks end up in the back of your net.”
Forward Marco Rossi, who missed Saturday’s contest in Tampa Bay due to illness, missed Vancouver’s practice on Monday.
Tuesday is the start of a three-game homestand for the Canucks, who are 1-2-0 on home ice this season.
Carolina won both meetings with Vancouver last season, outscoring the Canucks 10-7.
